Here, a former limestone quarry was lined and used for landfill. The lining failed within a few years and leachate polluted the groundwater. Landfill leachate can contain nitrates, phosphates, dichloroethane, phenanathrene, zinc, copper, magnesium, sulphate, chloride, ammonia and ammoniacal nitrogen. Not your usual cup of tea.
